PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: AFS supports host family and student with trained volunteers and professionals. Students from over 50 countries live with families and attend high schools. Students are selected for openness, flexibility and commitment. They are matched with a host family and expected to become involved with family and community, attend orientation in home country and upon arrival in the US. AFS brings teachers to US from the former Soviet Union, China, Thailand, and Latin America. The teachers, living with host families, serve as language and cultural resource persons in the local schools while working to improve their English and learn new teaching methods.
